 Saturday, September 5, was the day for the 2nd Annual Panaca mini-Triathlon.  Twenty-one Triathletes, ranging in age from 8 to 59, kcompeted and showed their courage in swimming, biking, and running the course.  Participants came from Layton, Utah, Orlando, Florida, Las Vegas and St. George, as well as around the county.  Conceived and sponsored by Dr. Klomp and the Panaca Fitness Center, this activity promotes fitness and encourages personal determination, and is open to everyone.  The emphasis is on preparing for and getting into shape for the event, rather than severe competition.  Times for each phase of the event, swimming 300 meters, biking 10 kilometers, and running or walking 5 kilometers, are posted online at panacafitnesscenter.com , mostly so that each participant can measure his own performance.  Mike Dorn of Mesquite, last year's winner, took first place honors among the men and a $25 giftcard donated by Steve McCrosky's Shell Service.  Kathi Hunt of Paqnaca was swiftest among the women, and was awarded a $25 certificate from the Panaca Market.  Other participants were, in no particular order, James Barrett, Cameron Dorman, Donny Lloyd, Glen Wadsworth, Steven Dorman, Amy Walden, Becka Lewis, Shawn Frehner, Aaron Klomp, Sheri Hill, Dustin Hill, Collin Klomp, Spencer Klomp, Torrie Klomp, Tameron McClure, Shannon Klomp, Steffanie Thornock, Kim LeBaron, and James and Parker Bleak.  In addition to the individual entrants, two teams competed, with each team member completing a different leg lof the event.  Each participant also received coupons for free or money off purchases at some sponsors.  Many thanks to the generous sponsors of the event--they include Jerry's Sinclair in Caliente, Panaca Market, Steve McCrosky's Shell Service in Panaca, Meadow Valley Pharmacy, K & L Construction, Dr. Klomp's Family Dentistry, and The Panaca Fitness Center.  The next scheduled event is The Country Mile (10.2 mile run, walk, bike) from Rabbit Springs to Panaca, May 15, 2010.  Start getting in shape!  We hope to see you there!
